Dear Candidate

I am very pleased that you are interested in the post of Managing Director (Designate) for our Community Learning and Skills (CLS) Service in Kent. This is a key senior post which will take forward Kent County Council’s plans for CLS services to be provided through a Local Authority Trading Company (LATCo). We are well advanced in our preparation towards this but we need to ensure we have the right leadership in place to further develop and implement these proposals. You would be joining a team that has a good track record of developing, managing and delivering adult and community learning which is reflected in the most recent good Ofsted inspection for the service. The Senior Management Team is very focused on bringing about further improvements for learners in Kent and to explore opportunities to broaden current delivery beyond Kent.

Initially this role will sit within the Education and Young People’s Services Directorate until the LATCo is formed. You would work closely with other senior managers within the Directorate and colleagues across Strategic and Corporate Services to further develop the business model and manage the transition to the new company. The successful candidate will be someone who can work effectively in partnership with the KCC shareholder committee and other partner organisations.

We are looking for great leadership skills together with commercial acumen including the effective management of significant resources. You will have a sound knowledge of delivering services to young people and adults in Community Learning and Skills and a successful track record in delivering improvements across a range of services.
