Recruitment Selection Criteria

The qualifications, knowledge and experience criteria below will be used in shortlisting. Applicants should describe in their application how they meet these criteria.

  • Excellent knowledge and experience of senior leadership of the Further Education and Adult Skills sector
  • Track record of successfully leading and managing such provision and of changing and developing the provision
  • A strong track record of leading the development and delivery of successful operations in education, training and skills
  • Demonstrable experience of financial management and budgetary control, and proven ability in contract management and business planning, particularly in a service sector environment
  • Proven ability to operate at a strategic level (board level), leading and embedding change, and driving performance and growth
  • Highly developed political awareness and an understanding of the third sector, the political, economic and social context for work-based and community learning, and the opportunities for innovation
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering contract compliance and achieving success within Ofsted’s inspection frameworks
  • Demonstrable experience of managing and raising the bar on business development and performance outcomes
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and evidence of using them to communicate with different audiences
  • Excellent networking, influencing and negotiating skills, including the ability to collaborate and build partnerships through the development of contacts with senior external stakeholders
  • Ability to lead, direct, manage and motivate a large and geographically dispersed workforce
  • Strong project management and performance management skills, and the ability to develop, monitor and evaluate strategies and complex work plans
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Degree or relevant management qualification
  • Demonstrates visionary leadership
